Kathryn Weinel
handbell choir director

The bells at Second Presbyterian had been silent for a number of years before we hired Kathryn Weinel as Handbell Director in August, 2002. It was our hope that she could revive and rebuild the bell choir program. “Kathi” comes to us from Havenwood Presbyterian where she has been on the music staff for the past twenty years. While at Havenwood, Kathi originated and developed a graded choral choir system for elementary, mid-hi, and senior-hi youth, and directed those choirs for eleven years. Later, she founded and established the handbell choir, and has been their director for the past nine years before coming to Second Presbyterian. Kathi has been involved with handbells most of her life, having grown up playing the handbells of Govans Presbyterian Church. Previously, she had worked with the handbell choirs at both Roland Park Presbyterian and Fallston Presbyterian churches. Kathi is a retired registered nurse, having worked at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) for 22 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and holds a Bachelor’s in health care psychology. Having achieved the American Contract Bridge League’s highest honors of being a bronze life master, a qualified bridge director, and a certified instructor, when she’s not involved with church music, Kathi is much in demand teaching bridge.
