What is a Capital Campaign?A capital campaign is the intensified and focused effort to raise funds for a specific purpose or purposes. Although capital implies facilities, the term “capital campaign” more generally means a fund raising effort that seeks to accomplish new objectives that go beyond regular annual fund raising efforts. Second Presbyterian Church is now in the midst of a capital campaign, “Reaching Out – Drawing Near.” We envision that the campaign will accomplish three things: modify and enhance our church campus facility; strengthen our endowment; and add additional compelling features to our mission program. Why is Second Church engaging in a capital campaign now?The bold and faithful vision of Reaching Out – Drawing Near is our response to the many blessings of God’s grace in our lives. It is our response and our responsibility to God’s call for a faithful future.
What else should I know?Second Presbyterian has spent more than two and a half years in thoughtful, prayerful preparation for “Reaching Out-Drawing Near”, a capital campaign. The effort has the endorsement of the Leadership (Elders, Trustees and Deacons) and is currently reaching out to all members for input and support. How can I help? Many volunteers are needed to complete this effort by December 15, 2007. Ad hoc short-term committees are being formed to complete special objectives by the end of the campaign. They are: Steering Committee, Finance and Auditing Committee, Study Committee, Pattern Gifts Visitors, Publicity, Kick-off Event Committee and, of course, the Victory Celebration Team. To volunteer for a committee or for more information, please call the Church office at 410-467-4210.
