the church officersElders, chosen by the people, exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a particular church as well as the church at large, including ecumenical relationships. It is the duty of elders, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation committed to their charge. Deacons, chosen by the people, are called to ministries of sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ. It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith. Trustees, chosen by the people, are responsible for the fiscal well being of a particular church. Officer and Nominating Committee Who can be nominated: A nominee must be a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a faithful participant in the worship and program life of the church. Previously elected officers are ineligible for at least one year before election to the same or different board.
