Worship at second

Worship is the focal point of Christian life in community. It is the starting point for education, fellowship, and service for people of all ages. Worship is the beginning and end of our corporate Christian lives. In a corporate service of baptism we are brought into the fellowship of the Church and the finality of our lives is recognized in a service of thanksgiving and remembrance in a Christian funeral. Worship is the centerpiece of our corporate experience in faith. It is where we learn and proclaim our faith, where we sing, pray, and share our gifts from God with others. It is both the construction site and the launching area of our individual and corporate ships of faith.

Whether at nine or eleven in the morning on Sundays, or on Wednesdays in the early evening, as we gather to praise God we are strengthened in our lives together and nurtured in our love for God and service to one another in Christ.

Second at nine

Second Church welcomes you to a new vigorous and family focused worship service at 9 a.m. in the chapel. The music is lively and the energy is contagious! Even the youngest members of your family will be comfortable at this service as they learn about worshipping God along will all of us. The Praise Band helps the congregation worship with a more contemporary theme, using piano, guitar, bass, and drums, along with beautifully blended voices. All of the elements of worship are practiced, and even explained to the congregation from time to time. This is a great way to teach the young and young at heart about ‘why we do what we do.' The service is short – usually forty to forty-five minutes, so you and your little ones will enjoy the time worshipping together!

service for the lord's day

This traditional Christian worship service is held at 11 a.m. Sundays in the chapel. Whether a life long Presbyterian or a newcomer to church life, you will find this service to be both familiar and invigorating. The Casavant pipe organ begins the preparation to worship with the prelude. After some announcements, the Pastor calls the congregation to worship. Singing of hymns, reading of scripture, the pastor’s sermon, a time with the children and anthems from the Chancel Choir all will help you worship God in a meaningful way.

taize

Taizé is a beautiful form of sung and silent prayer, inspired by the monastic tradition in Taizé, France, that, over the years has developed into a style that is both meditative and easily accessible to all people. It involves singing and listening to the word of God in an atmosphere of silence and peace. The service is held in the chapel on Wednesday evenings at 6:30, every month except August. The meditative atmosphere is enhanced with candles, plants and flowers. This ecumenical Christian service is a perfect way to conclude your hectic day.
